after looking online and seeing the prices for teather switches i decide to make my own its very simple and cheap you'll need a few things one a micro switch
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049718&cp=2032058&pg=1&f=Taxonomy%2FRS
K%2F2032058&retainProdsInSession=1&categoryId=2032058&kw=switch&kwCatId=2032058&numProdsPerPage=100&parentPage=search

something like that...some thin metal and a pin of some sort (a paper clip could be used) and of corse the teather....now again my mom has the cam so im gonna draw up step by step if anyone wants it..i'll post it when im done

here it is...now for wiring it up you would use the middle pole and w/e pole makes the switch complete when its open...then you would wire it just like any other teather switch

seems to be some big safety concerns with homade tether switches most organizations will only let you use the store baught ones so i would not recomend homade go to denniskirk.com you can get them under 20 bucks

The ignition interrupter kill switch and cap/prong must be commercially
available for racing type vehicles such as jet skis, snowmobiles, 4-wheelers
etc. Magnetic or any other form of homemade switch is not allowed.

this is  from the uslmra rules

well right in the atlma rules · Tether safety shutoff device as required
Rules state a tether must be used. Home made "tethers" open higher risk to failure of the produce, therefore should not/will not be allowed in the ATLMA organization. a quality tested tether is cheap, so use one, dont try to save a quick buck by building one the presents a higher risk of failing when you really need it.

well i guess thats it so i guess i tear my working switch out of my dash that hasn't failed ever and buy one with cash i don't have right now...everything has potential to fail...lets say i buy a faulty one...someone put it together at some point...i feel that mine fit the application better than available ones...so my next question is what about a switch to techs approval

The factory built tethers are built to a safety standard, and I'm sure that its certified.  Yours is not.  You have built 3 or 4 them, factories produce millions.  None of your 3/4 have failed, and out of the millions that factories produce if any of those fail, there is a recall and the problem is fixed.  There is a pretty big liability issue with using your own homemade safety device.  This way your "life" is in the hands of someone who has built a ton of these and knows what they are doing. (I'm NOT saying that you don't know what your doing, just stating they have more experience as its their job)

Yeah, let's not use non-standard tether switches. It would be fine on a beater mower, but with our organization we can run into some major liability issues. It's a good idea, and it's the same basic design golf cars have to kill their engines when you let off the gas pedal - but I've seen those switches fail and bad things happen (first hand experience).

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.
