Well, you were posting links to the pictures, so that works I also like how you have that thing stuffed into the trunk of a car

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.

i use wide office chairs with arms to keep your ars in the seat until you roll it if your wide enough you fly out easily Posted on: April 03, 2007, 07:51:59 AM what things sound like and what they are can be very deceiving geo metros motorcyles and sleds to name a few all have breaks bigger than the kart breaks racers use which you will need if you plan on stopping when they are covered in mud the little ones just cant do it unless you have the cash to put them on all 4 corners

if your going looking to put on a standard cart axle, escorts have a 4x4 bolt pattern, it may not fit a trailer hub though... get a disc or drum off the rear and it has the manual parking brake lever you can hook up to the brake pedal... I WOULD cap the hydro resevoir so it doesn't get crud in it (so you can go hydraulic later if you choose)

Ohhhh, I understand what you're saying now. I thought you were going to get stock brakes off another mower; my mistake - sorry

I'm am planning to use the escort brakes myself, if you find the escort with discs (or get new) they don't have a cleaning issue (and if your not wanting to go hydraulic) are way cheaper to hook into existing setups. motorcycle parts are really good too though, I went with escort parts because I won't be able to bend or break the disc without doing something I probably won't walk away from.
I am sure you're method will give more than adequate braking too. when you get it done, we'd love to see pics of it.

yea i ran mud trucks for many years until i got married and had my son then it got too expensive so mowers became the substitute but from running the trucks i know the only way to go for offroad use is a big disk

The brakes I got are off a "racing" ATV. Got the rotor off eBay for uber-cheap

i guess the only thing i would worry about is can you get the same amount of pressure not using hydrolic Posted on: April 03, 2007, 08:56:45 AM i have a banshee i could rob the breaks off but the fronts are too small the back might work

well, its less to fail since you have no suspension. its levers, if you set it up appropriately, you will have more than enough, it may take a little trial and error but given the diameter of the disc, and the fact that most non hydraulic go kart brakes use a levered type of rig (disc or drum), and it weighs alot less than 1/2 any cars weight (most parking brakes are 2 wheel)
if your spending only a little money to go hydraulic and it will be easier and you feel more comfy with it, I have no issue with it. I'm just giving people who mught not want to get away from a pushrod brake, and this is a good way to get very solid braking without much cash layout.

so are you using the handbrake setup if so would be sweet if you could do a little drifting on a mower speaking of that do the racers drift the corners or do they try to hold it solid Posted on: April 03, 2007, 09:38:48 AM chris for the front did you use the atv spindles with the front :confused:breaks Posted on: April 03, 2007, 09:40:22 AM can i assume eltoro is not the mower you did this to that mower looks like it has stock spindles

I think LMRA "drifts", doing 30+ in dirt gets there pretty fast I'd say.
I will be doing a handbrake on the dual band brakes as a parking brake/slide brake. the disc will be a foot brake.. I know technically I only need 1 or the other in terms of a braking system, but considering I like to get a little crazy when I get up in the hills, a back up brake feels sooo right.

The Toro is in process of being overhauled even more. I'm using an 8" cross-drilled brake disc for a go-kart on my 1" live axle and rear brakes from a "racing" style ATV. it currently has no front brakes, and is sitting on stock (to be upgraded) spindles. As of this moment it's just a frame with a seat and front tires
