Hey, I'm Cory.  I started a mower a few years ago and got sidetracked.  Never finished it and my dad got rid of it.  So I was looking for a winter project and stumbled across a 1996 Craftsman with a 22.5 HP Kohler V-Twin for the awesome price of FREE.  It needs a battery, the muffler fell off, and the fuel line is missing.  He said other than that it ran the last time he used it.  I have seen pictures and it looks to be in very good shape.  So I look forward to learning and sharing here on this build.

The nice part is they are used in the Garden pulling class a lot, so parts are fairly easy to come by.  I'm not sure exactly what direction this one is going to take.  My family rides ATV's a lot, so I may use it as a recovery sort of vehicle for that.  My only real requirement, besides the safety musts, is making sure it will fit in the bed of my S10.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

What year S10 do you have?

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.

I just worked on a friends S-10 Pickup Monday and found that the front rear was going out of it. It's a 91 he's thinking about junking it.....I told him I would replace it with another one. Anyone know if they are all the same gear ratio?

The front rear? I'm assuming his front differential?

If so, there's a bunch of different ratios differentials.

Sounds like it's time for a SFA swap

I've honestly had quite a bit of trouble with mine.  Alternator went bad, trans went at about 100,000 miles, had to do both sets of front wheel bearings, had to do both front ball joints recently.  I don't drive hard either.

My kohler needs new ignition modules.  Do you guys have a favorite small engine place you buy from?  The local place wanted 80 a piece for them, and thats because they are a Deere dealer, and gave me a crossover part number.

That is a sweet S-10, I didn't know they did a solid axle kit. I had a 1990 Bronco I always wanted to put a solid axle on upfront.
