I like the new forum, It's a little more down my alley. This isn't exactly a lawn mower but it's the closest thing I've got ;-) Per competition rules we had to run a 10hp Intek which I'm looking to upgrade to a twin. Anyways, here are a few pictures:

Damm... That thing looks like loads of fun, is it made by polaris and what do you call it?

No, It was designed and built by myself and a couple of other engineering students for an intercollegiate design competition put on by the Society of Automotive Engineers.  It's a ton of fun, just a bit underpower!  It's called a Mini Baja car.

Hell ya man. Thats gonna be a future project of mine whenever ive got the space and tooling to be able yo complete it. Im looking at going back to school soon for cnc/cam in the next year so that'll help. Rock on dude!

Well let me know if you have any questions, I send quite a bit of time running a CNC mill at work.

why is this in the All Terrain LAWN MOWER section? it should be in the "other interesting builds" section if i'm right...

Sweet ride though thumbsup

Why is it every thing is disected so much it must be here it must be there why isn't it over there.... It does get old chasing threads as they are moved about so much. Just my two cents.

Now that looks like fun...
Did you build it from plans or just off the top of your head?

Should technically be in "other builds" but I think it will be more productive in our neck of the woods - so to speak.

I think that thing is absolutely awesome! Imagine that thing with my wizard body on it, and then that's pretty much the plans I have for it

The car was designed from scratch on the computer using a CAD and finite element analysis software and then built off of the prints that were generated from the 3D computer model.

Also, I apologize if I put this thread in the wrong category, feel free to move it if you deem necessary.

It's obviously All Terrain and it uses a Mower power plant, close enough for me!

How about publishing a copy of those plans ?

I know 3 little kids that would love to have one of those !!!

Y'all quit worrying about where it belongs, it's fine right where it's at.

Absoluetly. Let admin. decide if it's to be moved thats why we are Admin.

ok 4 admin said it was fine where it is so let it go people.
that is a nice ride how fast does it go?, how long does it take to get there?

Ivine2001:

We never quite made a full set of plans, primarily because we always had the computer models to reference.
I think it's great that you'd be willing to spend all of that time build one for kids and if your serious about doing it PM me and I'll see what I can do to help you out.  That car is probably a bit too intricate and expensive but maybe we can come up with something a bit simplier and less expensive.

It hjas a stock motor which was goverened at 4000 rpm per SAE's rules so it wasn't too quick, 30-35 depending on how we set the CVT.  The nice part about it was that the suspension would allow you to keep your foot on the gas so you didn't have to slow down too often.

Yea I guess you are right. I was thinking about that after I posted it and had gotten off the site.
It would take me forever to do it and probably would never get completed, like lot's of other things around here. I am better off going to northern tool and getting them one from there or watching for a used one in the paper..
Thanks any way.

Might I say that's a sweet machine!  woo

Re: You should look up Don G @ G-Team... he build some killer motors

Yeah, someone else on the board has recommended him.  I believe he builds Inteks correct?  I'm still trying to decide whether I should put an Intek or Vanguard in it, decisions... decisions....

Put a banshee engine in it badgrin

lmao theres an idea^^^

but personally, i think the vangard emgines are stronger arent they? i know lots of you racing guys use them, and they make many parts for em.

-Phil

Vanguard has more availble do it yourself parts readily availble.

Re: Put a Banshee engine in it

A motorcycle/ATV engine would be a fairly easy swap but I'd kind of like to take the "nostalgic" restoration approach and keep the vehicle as close to original as possible.  Besides, B&S was extremely generous with their support of our school along with the other 200+ engineering schools and I'd like to give them my business as a token of my appreciation.  At each even they donated support and parts/tools free of charge to all competitors.  These days, as many of you probably know, its tough to get a nice "no thanks" response from potential sponsors let alone have them donate tens of thousands of dollars to help you out.

Yeah I have been leaning toward a vanguard but have yet to determine exactly what to use or what to do to the motor.  When I get the engine I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions if y'all don't mind letting me in on a few of your engine building secrets ;-)

hey trophy, what school are you going to?
My brother is a senior at South Dakota School of Mines.
hes the head of theisr Baja program.
If you going to rapid this summer for the competion ill probably meet you then!

overmoderation
most threads will die a natural death and can be quitely swept under the carpet.

Cal Poly Pomona, Where exactly is the race? And when? I wasn't planning on going to the competition due to a hectic work schedule but I would like to volunteer at one sometime in the near future.

>....Like the Super suit  Thread...You hardly hear anything about that anymower... wink

Oh but they can mysteriously be resurrected... just out of the blue! rofl

Next thing you know they're talking about it everywhere...

Posting Pics...Telling Jokes...Hijacking threads....

Hey... ninja

Maybe we should move this... lmfao

well, its the finals or whatever, the big bang at the end is taking place in Rapid city SD, like it took place in arizona last year...

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.
