so I'm trying something different... acetone... I've heard adding it to gasoline can get you fuel economy, but also, it raises octane, as its around 150 octane, but it also breaks up glazing/carbon. seems like snake oil... BUT.. I read it in enough places I was game, so I through some in a container with nylon, gasket rubber, and PVC, and after 2 months its no change, the rubber looks slightly swelled, but my micrometer can't register the difference. so I'm thinking about throwing some in a push mower, see how it holds up, under use.

i use a lot of stabilzer and injector cleaner in about everything i run. both raise octane slightly and help gasoline burn cleaner.

Why try that and risk it? I would get to the nearest gas station that sells "Blue Racinf Fuel" 110 Octane.

Its about $3.40 Gallon around here... And it burns HOT!!!

hey, I do gunsmithing too, sometimes tinkering gives you stuff to fix, its not rocket science, just science for the sake of it.  why did I build the buggy, to do something fun and different, it cost more, was hard work, but a genuine accomplishment none the less.

I've heard of this before, but I've also heard it eats gaskets, seals, etc - bu it seems like you're testing that theory.

I might have to put some in my truck if your tests are successful  bigsmile

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.

I was tinkering on my mower the other day. I went upstairs in my garage looking for a part when i saw something i had to try.
One gallon of nitromethane. I had a nyrto rc car that used to run on it. So i read the bottle and it said use at your own risk motor fai,ure could result. buti tried it anyway. I put half gallon of nytro to a 1/4 gallon of 93 octan gas.
Although it may sound like it would make a difference, i couldnt really tell teh difference in my motor.
It had better throttle response but not really any more power.

Throttle responce is about all you'll get on a stock engine, especially running 93 octane to begin with. Now, if you have a shaved head and a larger carb, and a cam, you would really see the difference. Higher compression engines (shaving the head) need a higher octane fuel to run properly
