ATV rear brake adjustment ? ?

      Hey Guys, - -  wishing you a nice day.

      The other day I was out about three miles on my ATV and my rear brake locked up on me.     At the time I didn't have the proper tools with me.  [ I was just test riding]     I had to wait until the brake cooled down before I could even get that ATV to move.    Then I rode it back with the brake dragging until I was almost home.  Then the brakes seemed to just unlock by itself.   The rear brake has since done this again.    I see no reason for this and have got to thinking that perhaps a cylinder is jamming the piston or I may have a weak "return" spring.        When the brake locks-up - - -  I have NO pedal play at all.    The adjustment on the master-cylinder takes care  of the problem for awhile then it  [ the problem] starts all over again.     

      Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.    I'm about ready to tear  down the entire system.

It sounds to me like your brake caliper is bad, I've had this happen to me on cars way too often.

I have a bunch of ATV calipers from when I ordered a bunch of stuff for the Toro, if you can get me a picture of our caliper, I'll see if I have one that I can give you.

       That's nice of you to offer me a working brake for my ATV.   Today  I took the ATV out for a run in the mountains and the brake appears to be working alright.       Perhaps  I  just didn't have it adjusted right.     Working the  "BUGS" out  I guess.      I have a "dead-end "  forest service road  that goes past my house  that's   three miles to the end.      It also has a trail to the lake .    While I was on my way back ,  - - - -  my engine started missing on a few grades.    I closed the choke some and the missing stopped.      It only did this after   about four miles and only on some grades.       This forest service road is very dry and a lot of dust blown up.    Tomorrow I'm going to clean the air filter and check the plug.    It's hard for me to believe that dust can cause the missing in only four miles but than  I'm so new to this ATV.       I figure that what can happen to the ATV can also happen to my mower  when I get it on the trails.       Anyway - - -  just thought I'd make the comment and see if anyone else has the same problems and get some input.
