Hey Guys, Always wishing your day goes well for you.

I don't even know if this post is permitted.    As I said earlier - - - I got an  "ATV" so I could get out on the forest trails  until I can get one of my mowers running.      Well - - -  as it turns out,  the  "ATV"  wont start now.    The starter sure tries and turns over real fast.  All my lights work.   I keep the battery fully charged with my charger.     The "ATV" was running  but was always hard to start  but  easy to flood   when starting.  Can't adjust the carburetor until I get this thing started and running half right for awhile

When I hold the plug against the engine and with the key on ,  and in neutral and push the starter button,  the engine turns over but there's no spark from the plug.   [ NEW  PLUG ]       This appears to be a motorcycle engine,  250cc  "Hi-Bird" ATV.     My "small engine"  repair books are no help .

With all the work so far,   I should have put the money and work into my mower.    Just trying to get back out into the forest.       Again - - -  I'm sorry if this post isn't permitted in this forum - - -if that's the case - - - I'd appreciate it very much if someone would direct me to the proper forum for some help.         [ I'm a mower-man at heart]     Thanks again for your help.           caveman  [ Norman ]

We will gladly help you figure out what the problem is, but i did move the topic to the off=opic section since it is not mower related.

You say when your starter turns sthe engine over, the light come on while its spinning? Or do the lights come on with the key?

Have you checked all of your electrical connections? (unpluged and cleaned them if dirty) And followed all of the wires to see if one has been cut?

Was the ATV running when it stopped getting spark?

I am not really familar with ATV's (never owned or worked on one) but if they have a coil like our engines make sure it is gaped correctly and same with points. Clean and gap correctly. Last make sure the magnets (Again if they have magnets on the flywheel) are clean same with the whole flywheel....

Hope this helps...

Hey Guys,  Here's wishing that you have a nice day,

I sure do appreciate your help ,  and Phil - -  THANKS for switching my question to the proper forum.   I was somewhat turned-around on that and didn't even know if I should have asked a question concerning an ATV.     YOU GUYS are something - - - ALWAYS so helpful and ready to give me pointers .

Yesterday - - - -  like most of the day - - - - - as I was sitting on the ATV trying to figure out what step to turn to next, - - - -I was just pushing the "kill-switch" back and forth and ready to give it up for the day.     After a few thoughts of  "LEARNING IT "  bigsmile  [caveman talk  of using a very big club called a sledgehammer]   bigsmile     I pushed the starter switch an the ATV  and it started right up and purred like it should have done three days ago. !!!!!!!      omg

THAT KILL SWITCH  confused      I disabled it and now the ATV starts and runs like it should.        Lesson learned - - -such a small thing giving me so much trouble and to think that it could have left me stranded  out in the middle of no-where. Out where I live  - - even cell phones don't work.   I often go six to eight miles  on back trails  almost never traveled.  A long hike out.    I love the remoteness.

This is one BIG reason that I know and understand the "machine I ride,  I also carry the tools needed to almost rebuild the "machine" anywhere I'm at.    I'm real particular about the items that are carried to keep the weight down.     My  knowing my machine is of the most importance.

Sure will be glad to get back to working on my mower.   Thanks again Guys,   Have a good one - - - -caveman     [Norman]

I should have known . . . blasted kill switch's, always a pain.

It is always good to know the machine you are riding well before you hit hard trails. Carrying the tools you need is always a good idea. I know on my ATV, i have a cargo box i keep my tools in with me.

Glad to hear you are back to your mower. Have a great day.

Caveman, it seems you do allot of trial riding like I do.  When I get in my truck I'll head out into the woods, sometimes hours into trails that I don't know where they go, and really far from home. I have no cell service, but I do have a CB (which is useless if nobody is listening!). One thing I've been considering looking into is a SPOT in case I have a problem I'm always tracked by GPS and emergency services are just a button away...

The device runs about $100-&150 depending on where you get it from, and the subscription costs $99/month. IMO it's cheap insurance. I really need to get one myself.

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.

Hi Chris,
Sounds like you enjoy the remote trails too.

Before I found the "mower site" - - - I used to walk these trails alone and now the distance is greatly increased.   The excitement is unreal and very enjoyable.      I may look into a CB or a marine band which i think has a greater  send/receive  distance  .     Thanks for the advice.

Always trying to keep an "eye" on the machine so there's no hike out.    I've ordered a few books on ATVs - - -  perhaps can find something in them to help customize my mower also.

Take care - - - Have a good one,    caveman
