has anyone thought/tried using 1/2 of a ztr setup (one control, one planetary, chain drive to a live axle)? just curious confused2. a friend suggested this as an easier off road setup.... no shifting, power to the wheels all the time ect...

most of these are expensive, so beyond dreaming, no..

over at Heymow, hydraulic/hydrostatic trannys have a bad rep for not holding up to increased inputs... My thoughts are  don't spin up the input, gear up the out put. so go to a 40 tooth on the trans and a 11 on the axle, stock tires you'd be around 20ish mph depending on which transaxle you were running.

once again, I wouldn't recommend one, but I've consider trying my ATGC with the above setup if a hydrostatic fell into my lap.

I really want to run a hydrostat on my recovery mower if I ever get around to building it. That would negate the need for a transfer case, and I'd have all my gearing done on the sprocket end, not the pulley end (like the toro)

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.
