when I ordered my pc with 1 gig (2x512) of ram, I believe it cost about $100 to upgrade it to there. I just ordered 2 gigs (1 gig x 2) for $43 bucks for ddr2 6400/800mhz for brand name ram, thats pretty awesome. I've seen decent label Elixir for as little as $20.50 for 1 gig same type.  I ordered because I realized my paltry gig wasn't doing it for the video chopping, as some of my family projects have been quite large, its been enough to play BF2 though.

just thought if you guys were hurting in the ram department, or just wanted a little shot of performance, its a darn good time to get some since they released the ddr3 standard the ddr 2 is almost cheap enough to demand you upgrade if finances allow!

Yeah, I just built my new server for only $700

Got 4 gigs of ram in that puppy (and going up to 8 more than likely) for only $80! And it's not cheap no-name RAM either!

And Phil, you can build yourself a decent PC for under $200 easily.

Not sure if you'll ever find anything under $800 for that. Flatscreens start around $200 for 17-19" and work their way up considerably. A good graphics card could set you back about 100-400 depending on how extreme you want to go, and a 500 gig HDD will cost about another $100.

And Vista FTMFW!
