My buddy had this motor apart and put it back together. And i dont trust it.So i took it back apart and took a peak to see if everything is ok.And noticed that the rockers were real loose and were just floating around and were not on the push rods or the vavles. So i put the rockers back in proper position. But i dont know how tight the nuts that hold the rockers on are suppose to be.ARe they just suppose to be tight or does tightning it adjust the vavles? How tight do i put them?

Nevermind... looking @ your other post it appears to be a Briggs 28xxx
Clearances are .003-.005 intake and .005-.007 exhaust.

Check the clearances while the engine is cold.

Turn the crank till the piston is at TDC on the compression stroke, then turning the crank clockwise at the flywheel end bring the piston  1/4 inch down.

Loosen the ball screws (you'll need a T-20 Torx) and adjust the valves to where they need to be using a feeler gauge, and adjusting the rocker nut.

When the valves are set, hold the rocker nut and tighten the ball screw to 45 in/lbs

Turn the crank thru all 4 cyles, bringing it back where it needs to be to adjust the valves... then check the clearances again.  Adjust if needed.
