Hi, Cool site with lots of info. I am starting a mower build using an old wheel horse garden tractor. It has good ground clearance as it sits. Not sure about the trans yet. I will be using a 18hp briggs opposed twin for the power.
I have it disassembled to get it bored .010 over, and the I will port and polish it.
I am not sure what class to run yet as I haven't read all the rules yet.

Well that motor is scratched off the list for now, as it has to deep of rust pitting in the lower cylinder. But i have a Craftsman LTV 11 varidrive and a Murray 12 mowers both with briggs motors. I am unsure as to the placement and design of the scatter shield, is this the engine cover?

gives you a reason to bore it out!! muhahah!!!

dont use the vvaridrive.. they SUCK for cutting grass and there even worse in mud!!! they do work.. but once they get a little wet, your pretty well screwed until it dries off

its really hard to make the vari-drive system work.. and you cant go very fast with them at all becasue of the way the belt system works, and as soon as they get aq little water they slip becasue all it is , is a lock that stopes the belt from getting any tighter...

I had planed on boring it 030 over But I don't think this will remove all of the pitting from the rust.

thanks speeddemon0308,

Are there any modifications being done to the stock carbs on the opposed twins? Also I have several carbs for them but I noticed that the 18.5 twin has 4 screws on the fuel pump insteed of 3 like all the others, what's the difference? And lastly These carbs have no numbers or brand stamped into them, are they a Briggs brand of Walbro or ?
