I like it... use nail polish or thread locker once you get it all where you want it. and more collars never hurt anything.
if you can weld, weld a cross bar in for the brakes, or get a 4x4 piece of angle, weld them on as a brake mount. if you can't weld, maybe I can fab up a bracket and you can bolt it on.

Chris..... whenever you welded your front axle solid to the frame, how did it act/handle after that. I know mowers only have a slight articulation in the front, but is it something you would do again or better left alone? Would it have the same effects on a front engine mower? It seems like it would be infinately stronger can't decide wether to do this or not.

You WILL want to weld or bolt the front solid. if you get on an incline sideways without the axle locked, youll be more likely to flip.

I hated how the mower handled with the axle articulation. I actually flipped it on an incline before it was welded solid becuase it articulated, one of the tires caught 7 the other spun, it did a 180 and rolled. It was THAT DAY that the front axle got weded solid. It handled 100% better on the grass and even better on the trails. The frame flexes enough that I have a slight suspension, so it's not bad at all. The larger tires helped SUBSTANTIALLY also.
