Hey guys, As you know I am building a wheel horse this winter for a ATLMA I was wondering if a 10 hp kohler with the following mods would be enough:

.30 over bore
Modded carb (bored out)
A mild port job
.35 shaved off the head
Govoner removed
A billet rod

Is this enough power you think to pull me qround in third going up trails and stuff? I want to make sure I will have sufficient power.

thanks,
Taylor

That stock Kohler would be enough. With those mods, itll be unstoppable.

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.

If you can get the electronic ignition coil for your motor and do away with the points I would go that route.IMO      Tom

PS we like to see pictures of everybody's builds. When you get ready just start a thread in the build section.

Tom I have thought about it but the problem is they dont make a electronic ignition coil like briggs does to replace the points... heres what you have to do....

You need to make a pick-up coil system like this illustrated below....

Heres the part list>>

Ford Modul-- OFF OF A-- 1977 Ford bronco V8 5.0 Liter 2BBL
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=GPS&MfrPartNumber=EL107&PartType=194&PTSet=A

There are 2 diffrent crankshaft sensors you can use either one will work---

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=GPS&MfrPartNumber=CSS105&PartType=762&PTSet=A

FROM A 1999 CHRYSLER SEBRING JX V6 2.5 Liter FI
AND/OR

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=GPS&MfrPartNumber=CSS38&PartType=762&PTSet=A

Its from a-- 1996 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP 2WD V6 3.9 Liter FI

Bassically you have to make a disc with a steel hub out of a peice of aluminum and then drill and atap a hole for the trigger screw.... Once you get timiing down you can advance/retard timing with a simple move of the sensor....

You can usually find a coil off another motor that will fit that one.  Id go to a mower repair shop, and they should have coils laying around, take your block with you and try to find one that fits.
