would an 8hp briggs engine hold up to offroading and at times hitting about 25 30mph

Yea it should...You better keep it in top running shape if you want it to push 25 off road...I would run it if that is all you got though anything works.

whell the 25 would be on the road to get to my offroading site aint too far away so that should hold up for that speed and then offroading would just be 5mph

My 8HP did very well, but I never removed the governor or beat on it.

BUMP but also i was wondering how a 16hp briggs twin would do i bet that would keep up the 30mph constant speed. Right? Would that give me the torque i need too? And im getting it for 20bucks sound good? But it does have one problem you have to have the choke out some for it to stay running does any one know what may be wrong with it?

sounds like the fuel delivery system is partially clogged. Pulling the choke lessens the amount of air entering the carb allowing the fuel mixture to be close enough to run.

You might also have a leaking intake gasket. Best way to test would be with a can of WD40. Spray it around your intake gaskets and see if it revs up any.

Also the opposed engiens have sooo much torqe graeayt for offroading  if you can fit it under your hood doh
