I was thinking about some ideas I had today and didnt know if they would work or could work or if any one has tryed them. My first thought was about engines. I was thinking about stroking my 11 hp motor and using it in my build. My question is will a 12 hp crank fit into the 11 hp block? Will the piston pop out of the top of the cylinder to much and a ring come out? I know you cant stroke a 10 hp because I have tried it. My next question is has anyone thought about using or making a brake disc that you can use a car brake on? I have wondered about using these things in a future build and didnt know if they would work so I thought I would ask you guys.

Thanks

I did the brake thing

ford aspire/honda 4 bolts 4x100mm is pretty close to 4x4 (102mm)
There are ALOT of 4x100 cars, do a search for bolt pattern, theres a pages.

I used an aspire caliper & rotor, I'm using a escort m/c but you can get a wilwood .75 bore for like $50 from jegs, smaller and lighter for people without alot of room.
I would consider slotting / getting slotted rotors if you are using a powered m/c (with the booster removed) with 1 caliper, its a hard push, so mount it low on the pedal so you can give it hell (unhook your vacuum tube from a cars brake booster, is like pushing a brick wall on some cars)

the slotting on a rotor will help make friction stopping well without pushing as hard, I haven't slotted mine, but I am switching to (advancedautoparts) 80's chevette m/c non-powered, which will make a difference. but this is a LARGE m/c so not for all.. good luck!

you'll need to find a 3/4 pass-through (or modify) wheel/sprocket adapter witha 4x4 bolt pattern, thats all.. it might be cheaper switch to a 1" axle though, and safer in the long run

Okay just needed to know some options for some brakes on the next off-roader project. Also does anyone know about my engine question?

How did you mount the brake caliper? is there a mounting bracket off the car I need or do you have to fabricate one?

I still have to fabricate a mounting bracket for my caliper when I get around to working on my mower again. It's going to be very tricky with the setup I have....

Just because you move up in a class doesn't mean that you'll "loose" the "race", it just means that you're building a better, more capable machine.
