Alright guys I have got my pulling tractor motor put back together and now it is back on the subject of getting my off road mower done. I have a question, has anyone ever tried making a custom intake and using a mikuni or tilly carb on there motors? I fired up my 8 hp today and it seemed not to have enough airflow since the govener is gone and the block is ported along with a cam it seems to need more air. I was thinking along the lines of using a 25 or 26 mm mikuni carb. What do you guys think?
Also the stock valves in these motors mik in at around 1.016 for the Exhaust and 1.475 on the Intake.

Are you sure its not gettin enough air? maybe adjusting the bolt on the bottom or the bowl to a richer setting.

I have richened it out then try to get a happy medium. When we thought we had it we would gas it and then it would start missing. We went back through the motor checked the timing it was dead on. When we got the motor we rebuilt the carb and had it bored .10 over. I even thought we were not getting enough fuel to the carb so I adjusted the fuel pump pressure still didnt work.

maybe the fuel jet needs bored? You say when you hold it wide open it cuts out, try holding it wide open for a second and turning the screw on the bottom of the bowl out (still at full throttle) and see if it clears out.
