Hey everyone, I noticed when you go up a hill your tractor seems to want to go upthe front end wants to toppel. Well I thought I would help you fix that by showing you how to build and a few pics of my front weight system. go to the link below to see. http://s183.photobucket.com/albums/x227/tractormans/

I like it, but if ya wana run one, I'd say put an axle collar on top of it in case you roll-over its not rolling down the hill at someone, at least it will fall as one. I understand those mowers are for a different type of deal, so I'm not saying theres anything wrong with THOSE mowers, just for ATLM a shaft collar might make sense, IMO.

I like the idea for front weights but that shaft could seriously injure someone if you rolled it, I would say make that shaft horizontal perpendicular to the length of the tractor.

haha, a spear then...
I like the concept, may require more thinking to evolve into useable, but definitely good R&D material. verticle is how it ought to be, I don't thnk it would stay on even with a collar if its laying down. IMO. I think if we can keep the mowers rolling as one big item, we've done what we can. there are enough other sharp edges and sheet metal we are screwed if it hits us anyway, like if a 4 wheeler rolls down a hill at you. I was just trying to minimize the cleanup and the number of things that you have to dodge.
I'll be back in a week.

If the front lifting up on your mower becomes a problem, get you hands on as many old car wheel weights as possible, melt them down and pull all the steel out of em, then pour the hot liquid lead into an old tool box or some kind of holder that can be bolted to the front of the mower. This process (melting lead wheel weights and pouring them into molds) is how a friend of mine and myself made all the weights for his 3 tractor pullers.

Gotta get the plastic ones and mount 'em vertical so they can spin on things, like on a steep angle if they touch the ground they'll freewheel.

lol well what chris is saying is what I was trying to say.. personally I wont add weights because I do occasionally roll mine and have gotten most of the sharp corners down to a minimum so its not to bad... one thing we do is put antifreeze in the front tires to add weight down low.. .

I made a front weight out of a heavy duty tow chain. It worked perfect as the mower had no clutch and a gas pedal so it was pretty jumpy in the woods. and when it broke down or got stuck it doubled as a tow chain.

Umm, The belt was too small so it was really tight and the clutch wasnt 100% efficient, but this was a long time ago and alot has changed.
