Hey guy I'm new to the tractor thing and this forum so I'll probably have so dumb easy to answer questions for you guys. Here's a list sorry for the size of it.   doh

1. Is a trans-axle a tranny ? (if not which is better)
2. Is a gas petal better for off-road mowers ?
3. If i use a gas petal i would put the clutch on the left and the brake and gas petal on the right is this a good idea ?
4. what are some brands to look for ? what about craftsman?
5. Is the clutch part of the trans-axle or is it separate ?
6. I want to make some sort of quick attachable plow any ideas ?
7. Is a trans-axle the one that is all one thing ?
8. I want a tractor that is high enough to go offraod but low enough for racing is this posable ?
9. Can i just cutout a part of the frame, make a braket and bolt the transaxle back in to lower it insted of buying all those like $300 rear ends ?
10. can i make a front end or is it not posible ?
11. is a 25hp twin really big or just perfict ?
12. i would like a stock 1st gear a little bit faster than stock 2nd gear a not bad 3rd gear a fast but torquey 4th gear and a crazy fast (like 50+ mph) 5th gear, is this posible ?
13. is a 70amp mig wire feed welder to small or will it work ?
14. is there any special tools or just the basics like wrenches, tap and die set, hamer , angle grinder, welder and stuff ?
15. do you hate me for all these questions lol:lol:  ?

Sorry for all the questions but this tractor stuff looks really really fun .

Welcome Dylan to the ATLMA!!

1. Depends on whats in the mower you have and the amount of work you want to do.
2. No not really, all those bumps can make your acceleration pretty bumpy
3. Yes if you use a gas pedal
4. Anything free or cheap
5. It is seperate
6. I think Phil or Chris or RYF can help you on this one
7. Not sure what you mean but a transaxle is your output axle and your gears contained in one "box"
8. I dont think so, you want it around 5'' for racing and for offroading you want it high up.
9. You really want to raise it, but if your interested in racing www.heymow.com
10. Sure you can, I made mine.
11. Its big but it could work
12. you dont need 50mph for offroading so no its not really possible
13. That should do ok for most of the stuff, but for your axle you should probaly use a stick or bigger MIG
14. Thats pretty much it although there is special engine tools(ring compresser, valve spring compresser, torque wrench. guide puller)
15. Nope its a good way to learn!!

Now since your new you should read our rules for the ATLMA and the Forum.

WELCOME TO ATLMA!!

MTD has most of the answers your looking for.

As for the plow, it can be done easily. All that will be needed is a qucik latch, which can be done many ways.

As for making an offroad mower good for racing as well as offroading, not gunna happen. The ground clearance for racing would kill you off roading, and the hight of an offroader would be extremely dangerous for racing. Youll need to get 2 different mowchines, one for each.

The engine is large, and i wouldnt want it on a rear engine rider, but it will work.

The goul of 50+ mph is reachable, BUT is highly dangerous for a stock or lifted mower. A reasonable speed of 30 to 40 mph, while still having the torque you want, is reachable.

15: NO! questions will help EVERYONE that visits our forum!

The gas pedal idea is usable, and can be done, but may be a problem on bumpy trails. Most of us use a hand throttle, which allows for better control. BUT if you really want a gas pedal, you can do it easily.

If you have anymore questions, or anything at all, feel free to ask.

Toros are good, but youll want a bigger engine. Chris's toro is EVIL!!

Bolens idk much about them but itll work. As far as i know, theyre heavy and strong.

Craftsmans are good all around for offroading and racing it seems. It has a decent sized engine. But the transaxle in it is probably gunna hurt you cuz itll probably have a vari-drive.

Rally, thats an MTD like the craftsman, has a larger engine (more mods out there) and will do just as good as the Craftsman, only difference may be that it has a better transaxle or a transmission.

Cub Cadet is a good brand, period. If its an older Cub, its larger and heavier, if its a newer cub, its like the Rally and Craftsman, It has the largest engine and most likely has a peerless transaxle (good).

A personal pick of all these would probably go like this:

-Cub Cadet or Toro...toro probably has a peerless transmission and an axle. Only thing being that the
Toro has only 5HP. i would choose the Cub over it, anytime.
-Craftsman, Rally, or Boelns....craftsman and rally are MTD frames, and have lots of potential, and
depending on the Bolens, its a good one too.

The Cub Cadet takes it all for me.
