Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried rock crawling with there mower. I took mine out on rocks today and it was awsome. The thing just went. Even with a strtched slipping belt in 1st gear the thing still went over them. Just a thought.

I just tried that today. It was pretty fun.My tractor went pretty good.I got a hydro tranny  which I think makes it easier because you have more control.

I've done that before, except then my mower had no clutch so it was pretty interesting.

I think the whole 4 wheel steeringing and 4 wheel drive mower ideas would really come into play for some serious crawling. But if we started seriously crawling we would need roll cages as well.

I think the biggest thing that would help with crawling a mower would be chassie flex, since theres little to no suspention on a mower.

thats all me and my friends do on our mowers, its awsome! we use sears suburbans, the low range is great for crawling, and the front end and steering is tough as nails. we crawl up a rocky creekbed, its kinda like tellico with lots of smaller moss covered rocks, you have to be very careful and find the right lines to make it all the way up

yea run bigger front tires, it helps more than you would think, use 16s or skinny 18s, we run 23s and 26s on the rear and if your rearend isnt locked, lock it, makes a huge difference with the small tires

4WD would definately be a big plus when crawling. But as money said, safety is an issue here. Even with a roll cage, it would be tough to make it so you wouldn't get seriously injured if you rolled.
